Librarian III - Adult Services Manager - Feb 2012 - 1 position
Duties:
The Alexandria Library is looking for an enthusiastic individual to lead its Adult Services team. The ideal candidate will have exceptional customer service skills and the desire to contribute to a busy, main library. Under the direction of the Central Library Manager, this position is responsible for supervising the activities of the Adult Services Department, including overseeing system wide Interlibrary and Sunday service, training and evaluating personnel, developing technology initiatives, planning programs, collection development and a variety of duties that require a thorough knowledge of adult services
Management Duties:
• Provides overall vision and leadership for Adult Services throughout the Alexandria Library, to include planning and coordinating initiatives and services on a system-wide basis.
• Works as a member of the Central Library management team and submits information and statistics to the Central Library Manager for monthly and annual reports.
• Directs and coordinates the activities of the Adult Services Section by formulating goals, plans, procedures, priorities, and schedules.
• Hires, trains, and evaluates staff within the Adult Services Department at the Central Library.
• Assists customers with requests for information and library materials.
• Instructs customers on the use of the library’s online, digital and print resources.
• In collaboration with the Central Library Manager, coordinates collection development and maintenance for the library’s circulating and reference collections.
• Monitors equipment, such as computers, photocopiers, and printers and requests service as needed.
• Stays aware of professional trends and continually works to improve adult services.
• Represents the library through interaction with community organizations and participation in professional associations on both a regional and national level.
• Assists with grant writing for Adult Services initiatives.

Hours are scheduled to meet the staffing needs of the library, and will include days, evenings, rotating Saturdays, and occasional Sundays at the Beatley Central Library

Salary:
Salary: $51,499.19 - $89,179.39.
Benefits: Earns annual and sick leave and is eligible for health insurance, retirement, life insurance, long-term disability and long-term care insurance.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science from an ALA-accredited school; experience at the level of Librarian II; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; supervisory experience preferred. Applicant must possess or obtain, within 3 months of hire, a license to practice as a registered professional librarian by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
