Mss C.S. Hallowell & Bro.
Your favor of 19th Ult. has been duly received: & contents noticed. I was pleased to hear of the health of James & that his progress was satisfactory. I am however disappointed to find that James has not been studying Latin & Greek, which I had supposed was more essential than French in preparing him to enter College. Mr. T. Lane Betton will hand you this on his way northward and will leave with you $30 to give James if he concludes to return with his cousin Tom Nixon to N. Carolina during Vacation. But if he should not go, you will only give him $5 at Vacation: and board him at some healthy situation.
I am very Respectfully Yours &
L.H. Betton"
