Friends of the Special Collections/Local History Branch of the Alexandria Library are pleased to offer the following classes to be taught by Sharon Hodges, a professional genealogist with 20 years experience.


FINDING YOUR VIRGINIA ANCESTORS
Genealogist Sharon Hodges presents a comprehensive overview of Virginia research. The class covers vital records, immigration, boundary changes and disputes, "burned county" info, and land, probate and church records. Find and use the repositories most vital to your research.

DISCOVERING MARYLAND REPOSITORIES
Sharon Hodges continues her series of regional research classes with this two-part guide to repositories and records in Maryland, including the Maryland State Archives in Annapolis. Develop an effective and efficient plan to access the records you need.
Mondays, June 7th and 14th, 2010, 6:30--8:30 p.m.

USING NEWSPAPERS AND CITY DIRECTORIES
Sharon Hodges shows how newspapers and city directories can be key tools for family history research. Not only can you retrieve vital information such as marriages, death notices, and obituaries, but you can also determine residence, migration patterns, professions, and more. Learn to place your family within the social context of their community.
