Placing a Hold

Login using the "My Account" link at the top of the screen. Here you will see the option for "Check Holds". Here you can:

 

  • Check your hold queue placement
  • Check if your hold is available and ready for pickup at the selected pickup branch location
  • Cancel or Suspend a hold to delay the item becoming available if you are traveling (Note: suspending a hold will not place you at the top of the hold queue when you unsuspend it. You will be placed in a location after others on the hold list.)
  • Change the pickup location for a hold

 

Using the Classic Catalog Interface

Login using the "LIB CARD" (Library Barcode Number) and PIN (Last 4-digits of your registered telephone number) fields at the top of the screen. Review the links across the top of the screen and select "My Account". Select "REVIEW MY ACCOUNT". Here you can:

 

  • See all items currently on hold
  • Cancel/Suspend/Unsuspend holds
  • Note your position in the hold queue

 

Will a branch hold a book for me?

Yes. You may search the online catalog for a title or call a specific branch to find an item noted as ON SHELF or AVAILABLE. The branch will verify that the item is available and will hold it for you at the Circulation Desk for seven (7) days. You may also request that an available item by Placing a Hold on it through the online catalog. The library's automated system will contact you via your preferred notification system (telephone or email notices) you when the item is available for pickup at your selected pickup location.

 

How long will an item stay on hold for me?

The library's automated system will contact you via your preferred notification system (telephone or email notices) when the hold item is available for pickup at your selected pickup location. Items will stay available on hold for patrons at the Circulation Desk for seven (7) days only. At midnight of the 7th day the automated system will automatically remove the hold from your account and transfer the hold to the next patron in the hold queue.

 

May I have materials moved from any branch to my "home" branch?

Yes. It is best to call the branch where you have identified an available item that is noted in the online catalog as AVAILABLE or ON SHELF. The branch staff will locate the item and have it delivered to your preferenced Home Branch or other pickup branch location. The library's automated system will contact you you when the item is ready and available for pickup from the pickup location. Materials are placed on hold for seven (7) days after the automated notification message has been sent.

 

How may I get a book or other item when all copies are checked out?

You should use the online catalog to place a hold on the item or you can contact the Circulation Desk at your "home branch" or pickup branch location to request a hold be placed on the item. Contacting a branch to place a hold on an item will not place you any higher in the hold queue than using the automated online catalog. You may designate the branch where you would like the item sent. The branch will call you when it arrives and will hold the item for seven days.
