OverDrive App Crashes with Apple iOS 7

Apple Corporation released their latest operating system, iOS 7, on September 18, 2013. With any new operating system problems can occur with previously installed applications and programs. Alexandria Library patrons may experience problems with the OverDrive App media console used for downloading eBooks and eAudiobooks on devices onto which the new iOS 7 has been installed.

The Problem

When an existing OverDrive Media Console (OMC) user upgrades to iOS 7, the app may fail when trying to open a DRM-protected eBook. New or first time users of OMC are unaffected by this issue.

Solutions

1) Please re-authenticate the app using an existing or a new Adobe ID. Refer to the OverDrive iOS HELP for assistance. (Recommended)

2) Uninstall and re-install OverDrive Media Console. This action will also require re-authorizing with Adobe. (IMPORTANT NOTE: A re-install will clear your bookshelf, history, and app settings.)

OverDrive eAudiobook users should not notice a difference unless you attempt to re-download parts of eAudiobooks already downloaded to the OMC or restart incomplete or interrupted downloads before the device was upgraded to iOS 7. In these instances you will receive an error message informing you to download the title again.

If you continue to experience problems with your OverDrive App and the iOS 7 upgrade please consult our help page or Ask a Librarian.
