Spring Fling Program at Barrett Branch Library

On Saturday, May 3 the Barrett Branch Library will be hosting its annual Spring Fling program, providing fun activities for all ages. Join us for any of the following events:


FRIENDS' BOOK SALE
All Day
Select from hundreds of books, DVDs, CDs and more. All proceeds benefit the Friends of Barrett Branch Library.


A JAUNTY 1920S THEMED BICYCLE RIDE AROUND OLD TOWN
10 to 11 a.m.
Join the Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) for a jaunty ride around Old Town! The five-ish mile route will roll by some historic sites from the 1920s and 30s. Wear something festive! Seer sucker? A snappy vest? The ride will begin and end at the Barrett Branch so that participants can join in on other activities during the branch's annual Spring Fling!

DROP-IN REPAIR CLINIC WITH VELOCITY BICYCLE CO-OP
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Time to pull that bicycle out of storage and make sure it's operating in tip top shape! Folks from Velocity Bicycle Co-op will be on hand to offer quick fixes and advice for helping your bike perform at its peak. Local Motion will also be on hand for trivia and prizes!

LIVE JAZZ: SETH KIBEL TRIO

Noon to 1 p.m.
Join us for a jazz concert performed by the Seth Kibel Trio! Winner of 24 Washington Area Music Awards (Wammies), including "Best Jazz Instrumentalist" (2005, 2007-8, 2011-12), Kibel has performed at the Kennedy Center, the Carter Barron Amphitheatre, the Lowell Folk Festival in Lowell, Massachusetts, as well as on several European tours.


 

COCKTAIL CULTURE IN THE TWENTIES
1 to 2 p.m.
Victoria Vergason, author of Capitol Cocktails and owner of The Hour Shop in Alexandria, will speak about the stylish glassware and barware used during the era of flappers and prohibition. Mocktails will be served! Spring Fling is an all day event at the Barrett Branch that will also feature live jazz before AND after this program in addition to a book sale and more!


 


LIVE JAZZ: VOCALIST LENA SEIKALY
2 to 3 p.m.
Come hear jazz vocalist Lena Seikaly perform an afternoon serenade. Seikaly, a classically trained mezzo-soprano, is a burgeoning jazz vocalist in the DC area. As a vocalist with several D.C. ensembles, she has participated in the Jazz Aspen Snowmass program, the North Sea Jazz Festival (The Netherlands), the Jazz Ascona Festival (Switzerland), the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee (CA), and several other national and international venues.
