Special Collections First Saturdays Lecture Series
The Friends of Local History offer an ongoing lecture program on those Saturdays the Special Collections branch is open. Local authors, researchers and experts are given the opportunity to share and talk about their areas of expertise and research experiences. The program usually runs about one hour and concludes with a question and answer period. Light refreshments are served by the Friends. Numerous authors have used the opportunity to make copies of their works available to participants for purchase and signing. Lecture topics concentrate on Alexandria, Northern Virginia and the Chesapeake Region. Several workshops have been also offered in preservation of paper in the home and the interpretation of old photographs. The programs are open to the public and are offered free of charge.
Recent topics have included: A Photographic Walking Tour of King Street; The Battle of Chinn Ridge at Second Manassas; and Alexandria Ghosts.
