Virginians can shop tax free this weekend, Friday through Sunday, August 2-4 using our Amazon.com link. During this three-day period, purchases of certain school supplies, clothing and footwear will be exempt from the Virginia sales tax.

African Americans who contributed to Alexandria's rich past, will now shine brighter thanks to local authors who chronicle their struggles and victories in the new book, African Americans of Alexandria Virginia: Beacons of Light in the Twentieth Century. Our Special Collections Branch has invited the writers on Saturday, August 3 at noon to discuss their groundbreaking work that recognizes the African American legends.
