Local Author Will Discuss His New Guidebook on Alexandria's Historical Markers
Intrigued by historic markers and signs placed in Alexandria over the centuries, William J. Roberts began a 15-year research journey that culminated in his book, River to Rails: A Guidebook to Historical Markers in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. The compendium and walking guide which traces the city’s growth since 1749 includes directions to and descriptions of more than 200 historical markers. Roberts will present highlights of his findings and sign copies of his book on Saturday, September 14 at Alexandria Library, Special Collections, 717 Queen Street. The event is from 1 to 2 p.m. It is hosted by the Friends of Local History. Light refreshments will be made available.
