Craft Nights for Adults at Alexandria Library

Join Alexandria Library as we meet up for social crafting hour every month at Beatley Central and Barrett Branch Library. Share your projects, tips and ideas, and enjoy the company of other crafters while you do your craft of choice. Bring whatever project you’re working on, drop in, and join the group! Beginners welcome. Participants must bring their own supplies.


Handcraft Tuesdays at Beatley Central
Join other crafters at Beatley Central Library on the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. for Handcraft Tuesdays.


Craft Night at Barrett Branch
Join other crafters at Barrett Branch Library on the third Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. for Craft Night.


 

Upcoming Craft related programs for Alexandria Library’s All Alexandria Reads

All Alexandria Reads is designed to create shared experiences through reading. Everyone is invited to read the featured title and selected books for younger readers. Join the events and discussions that relate to the themes of When Washington Was in Vogue and take a step back in time to the Roaring Twenties.


Threads of Time and 1920s Fashion Show
Wednesday, April 30 at 7 p.m.

Beatley Central Library
Author Rosemary Reed Miller will discuss the history of African American fashion with a focus on the 1920s. The program will include a fashion show sponsored by Amalgamated Clothing and Dry Goods. Feel free to come dressed in the spirit of the 20s.


Art Deco and the Decorative Arts
Tuesday, May 13 at 7 p.m.

Beatley Central Library
Decorative arts specialist, Oscar Fitzgerald, will lead a discussion of the art deco movement in the United States.


Art Deco Crafts (Grades 3-6)
Tuesday, May 20 at 4 p.m.

Beatley Central Library
Listen to music and create crafts reminiscent of the 1920s. Supplies and light snacks will be provided.

 

Dance Card Workshop
Tuesday, May 20 at 7 p.m.

Barrett Branch
Local artist and paper craft collector Laura Hummel will share samples of Dance Cards from the past, a social necessity of the time mentioned in “When Washington Was In Vogue.” Create your own with the supplies provided.

Duncan Branch
Join us for an afternoon of fashion talk with live models! Fashion Historian, Deb Fuller, will be talking about fashion in the 1920's, and how style mirrors the fabric of society.
